Victory For Women's Boxing At The Olympics

Women's boxing is expected to be approved as an Olympic sport in a landmark ruling.

The International Olympic Committee
is due to give the go-ahead to boxing for the London 2012 Games at a meeting in Berlin on Thursday.
Boxing is the only Olympic sport women are currently barred from entering.

A similar request was knocked back in 2005 on the grounds of medical safety.

Earlier this year, IOC president Jacques Rogge indicated he was in favour of the new discipline.
The proposal by the boxing governing body calls for 40 women to compete in 2012.
Due to the IOC's limit of 286 boxers the number of male fighters would then have to be reduced.

The IOC is considering a number of other changes to Olympic disciplines for 2012 and will also debate which new sports should be included in the 2016 Games.
