American boxers win Gold in the 2009 Aiba President´s Cup

In the 2009 Aiba President’s Cup, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, the featherweight boxer Oscar Valdez beat his opponent, the Russian Dmitry Polyansky from team Europe1, retaining the gold medal at 57 kgs.
Valdez Fierro (Latin 1), bronze medalist in the 2009 World Championships in Milan, completed his goal of gold medals and the title of the tournament on Friday when he imposed himself with a good and effective technique in the ring.

Another gold medal for the Americas was obtained by the Ecuadorian star Carlos Gongora with 81 kg (American 1) who defeated Abdelkader Bouhenia from team Europe 1.
Gongora, in the semifinals, shows his talent and presented the greatest bout, recovered from a big lead and beat his opponent, once again proving in the finals the quality of boxer that he is.

The Dominican Miguel Diaz from team America 2, 48 kgs; and the Ecuadorian Julio Castillo, from the same team, achieved second place in their respective weight categories to add two silver medals to our continent.

The totals of medals won by the American continent in this event, which took place from December 8th to 11th in the Baku, Sports Complex Serhedchi, were as follows: 2 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 6 Bronze Medals.
