IX Central American Games begins in Panama

With an artistic and musical show Panama became the Central American Capital of Sport, on having inaugurated the IX Central American Games.

The event was attended by President of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli with his Honduran counterpart, Porfirio Lobo, in addition to local authorities.

From April 9th to 19th 2010, a total of 1.539 athletes will compete in Panama to achieve a medal in 19 disciplines, including boxing.

On April 16th 2010, the Boxing competition will be the officially opened at 5:30 p.m in the Gym Eugenio "Yuyin" Luzcando where they will compete until the 18th of this month, and then move into the finals at Rommel Fernandez Stadium in Panama city.

A total of 6 countries will be participating in the event: El Salvador, Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

Panama, the host country will have the largest delegation with 447 athletes, followed by El Salvador with 285 athletes, Nicaragua with 277, 265 Costa Rica, Honduras 208 and Belize with 84 athletes.
