Youth World Championships 2010 begins in Baku, Azerbaijan
More than 46o boxers from 90 different countries made it to the General Weigh-In the firth day of the Youth World Championship 2010. This competition is been held in Baku, Azerbaijan from April 25 to May 3.
Despite widespread travel disruption due to a volcanic ash cloud that closed European airspace last week, only three countries - Canada, Mexico and the United States - did not make it to the tournament.
At the opening press conference of the tournament, AIBA President Ching-Kuo Wu highlighted the record number of participants and stressed that the tournament will be strictly managed to ensure fairness and openness for all participants.
Emmanuel Elder Rafael from the Netherlands Antilles suffered an unceremonious exit from the competition after being knocked out in the first round of his opener by Lithuania's Tautvydas Statkevicius. Hopefully, the knock-out will not affect Emmanuel's other career as a model.
In one of the first fights of section 2, the Dominican Luis Salazar convincingly defeated his opponent in the 57 kg representative of Chinese Taipei, Kao Chih Yuan. While Hector Cleide Boloy Favier of Cuba was eliminated from the competition for Turkey's Dogan Tolga this being a real surprise since Favier Boloy the favorite at this meeting.
The Venezuelan Fradimil Macayo 57 kg, emerged victorious by defeating by RSC in the first round to his Indonesian opponent Henry Christo to proceed to the next phase of the Championship against the Dominican Luis Salazar.
