XIV Edition of the José "Cheo" Aponte Tournament.
Cheo Aponte invitational tournament organized by Puerto Rican Boxing Federation (FPBA) honors the memory of Jose "Cheo" Aponte Torres, who was the first gold medalist from Puerto Rico in the Central American and Caribbean Games 1938 in Panama.
This important event will compete in all divisions that comprise the Olympic boxing, from 48 kilograms to 91 kilograms or more and will take place from 11 to 15 May in the field Roger Mendoza of Caguas, Puerto Rico.
"Probably for this year is one of the most competitive editions of this tournament because of high level boxers, world and Olympic experience will come together at this tournament.
The high-level boxers with Olympic experience that will face Puerto Rican boxing team will be: Mexican Oscar Valdez and Oscar Molina. From Ecuador Carlos Quipo, Jaime Cortez, Carlos Gongora and Julio Castillo. Meanwhile, from Brazil will attend Everton dos Santos and Myke Carvalho. Besides the boxers from the Dominican Republic, Luis Miguel Diaz medalist at the Aiba President Cup 2009.
The Puerto Rican squad will be led by the silver medalist last World Championship, Jose Luis Pedraza, together with the Junior World medalists Jonathan Gonzalez (2008) and Emanuel Rodriguez (2010), and the Youth World Medalist 2006, Keith Tapia.
