Puerto Rico takes possession of first place in Mayaguez 2010
The Puerto Ricans Jose Pedraza, Angel Acosta, Camilo Perez, Christian Peguero and Gerardo Bisbal won their respective matches and tomorrow will look up to the top of the podium, but so far have given their teams the top of the event with 21 points.
Pedraza executed a perfect match, showing superiority in all aspects of the game and defeated the Dominican Wellington Arias, 10-1 in the 60kg category.
Meanwhile, Acosta comfortably beat the Costa Rican David Jimenez 14-4 in the 48kg and Camilo Perez won by 11-3 to Jorge Núñez in the 54kg, while in the 69kg category, Peguero Christian bent, 11 - 2, Aaron Prince of Trinidad.
But the emotion came near the end of the session. In the 81kg category, Gerardo Bisbal took a 5-1 lead in the first round, but the Venezuelan Jose Payares recovered at the end of the last episode after being down 10-7, and tied 11-11 at almost the last second decision to remain by the hands of judges.
Puerto Rico is the first place of the event with 21 points, followed by Colombia with 13 and third place is the Dominican Republic with 11 points.
